Ep. 6 Dr. Stephany Powell: Reimagining Policing

Community Policing in an age of calls to defund the police can seem unimaginable. According to the US Department of Justice, community policing is “a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.” In this balanced conversation with Dr. Stephany Powell we reimagine policing in America and discuss ways she has successfully integrated community policing through her 30 years as a leader in the Los Angeles Police Department. Dr. Powell is currently the Director of Law Enforcement Training and Survivor Services at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation and has dedicated her career to creating positive change everywhere she goes. In this timely conversation, Dr. Powell offers key suggestions for police reform and valuable insight into the world in which human trafficking and law enforcement intersect.
